The statue of liberty
Before I begin my text , I want to say that it is my privilege to have the chance to make the introduction about the statue of liberty . To prepare for my presentation , I have collected information about the statue through related books and the Internet as much as possible to ensure I have a good knowledge of it . Now , I will lead you to go close to the mysterious statue .
As we all know , the statue of liberty is one of the most important symbols of American culture and it has a history of about 140 years . But most of us don’t know that the famous America symbols was made by a French artist .In the mid-1870s , to celebrate the US independence of 100 years and the France-America alliance , French artist Bartholdi began working on the project and then , it was given to America as a gift.
The statue is 46 meters tall , and weighs 229 tons. What on her left hand is a book called The Declaration of Independence , which is as important as Bible in America. Her right arm lights a torch over her head ,which means liberty enlighting the world . it is said that Batholdi had used his wife’s arm and his mother’s face as the model . However ,we don’t know whether it is true or not.
