bonasera: i believe in america. america has made my fortune. and i raised my daughter
in the american fashion. i gave her freedom. but i taught her never to dishonour her
family. she found a boyfriend, not an italian. she went to the movies with him. she
stayed out late. i didn’t protest. two months ago he took her for a drive with another
boyfriend. they made her drink whiskey, and then they tried take advantage of her.
she resisted, she kept her honour. so they beat her like an animal. when i went to
the hospital, her nose was broken. her jaw was shattered, held together by wire. she
couldn’t even weep, because of the pain. but i wept. why did i weep? she was the
light of my life. beautiful girl. now she will never be beautiful again. sorry. i
went to the police, like a good american. these two boys were brought for trial. the
judge sentenced them to three years in prison, but suspended the sentence. suspended
the sentence! they went free that very day! i stood in the courtroom like a fool.
those two bastards, they smiled at me. then i said to my wife, “for justice, we must
go to don corleone.”
bonasera: what do
you want of me? tell me anything, but do what i beg you to do.
vito corleone:
what is that?
bonasera: i want
them dead.
vito corleone:
that i cannot do.
bonasera: i’ll
give you anything you ask.
vito corleone: i’
ve known you many years, but this is the first time you’ve asked me for help. i can’
t remember the last time you invited me for a cup of coffee. even though my wife is
godmother to your only child. but let’s be frank here. you never wanted my friendship.
and you were afraid to be in my debt.
bonasera: i didn’
t want to get into trouble.
bonasera: i ask
you for justice.
vito corleone:
that is not justice. your daughter is alive.
bonasera: let
them suffer, then, as she suffers. how much should i pay you?
bonasera: be my
friend?godfather.
bonasera: grazie,
godfather.
vito corleone:
prego. give this to clemenca. i want people that aren’t going to get carried away.
we are not murderers, in spite of what this undertaker says.
vito corleone:
where’s michael?
santino corleone:
don’t worry, he’ll be here.
vito corleone: we’
re not taking the picture without michael.

Minister: We are gathered here today in the sight of God, and in the face of this company, to join together (Groom’s Name) and (Bride’s Name) in holy matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God, since the first man and the first woman walked on the earth. Therefore; it is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently and soberly.
Into this holy estate these two persons present come now to be joined. If any one can show just cause why they may not be lawfully joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.
Who gives this woman to be married to this man?
Father: My wife and I do.
(Then the bride is given away)
Minister: I require and charge you both that if either of you know any impediment why you may not be lawfully joined together in matrimony, you confess it now. Be assured that if any persons are joined together otherwise than as God’s word allows, their marriage is not lawful.
(Minister: addressing the groom)
(Groom’s Name), do you take (Bride’s Name) for your lawful wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honor, comfort, and cherish her from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto her for as long as you both shall live?
Groom: I do.
(Minster: addressing the bride):
(Bride’s Name), do you take (Groom’s Name) for your lawful wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honor, comfort, and cherish him from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto him for as long as you both shall live?
Bride: I do.

Reader 1: A reading from the book of Genesis, chapter 2, versus 21 through 25:
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ’woman, ’ for she was taken out of man.“ for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
