Sometimes they would play along with us and pretend to be scared by some ghost or witch. But they would always have some candy and maybe an apple to put in our "trick or treat bags." 2. carrying a lantern：拿着灯笼。这里用carrying作walk的伴随状语，更生动地说明可怜的Jack无论走到哪里手里都要提着灯笼了。好累呀！
3. neighbors' houses：邻居的屋子。Neighbors本身已经是复数，有一个“s”了。如果表示“邻居的”，就不能加“'s”（太累赘），而要直接加“'”了。所以就是neighbors' houses。
